“Divide and Conquer Sculpture”
8:00am – Noon
Sarasota School of Glass

Create a fabulous fused glass sculpture for your home in your own original design. Your 12”x 15” clear glass will be divided by an “S” curve which you will put back together by “conquering” the halved glass, joining the two pieces with your design. Skills worked on will be cutting plate in straight and curved lines, kiln firing rates and kiln control. Artistic seminars are available to all registered attendees and guests.

“Equipment maintenance”

Learn the ins and outs of keeping your most loved tools and equipment in perfect running order.

“Woven Bowl”
1:00pm – 5:00pm
Sarasota School of Glass

Using stringers, thin threads of glass, students will “weave” a pattern with 3 layers of glass into a 9” bowl. Bowls will be fired in a kiln twice to achieve the look of fabric.  Skills worked on will be cutting stringers, arranging patterns, kiln firing rates and kiln control. Artistic seminars are available to all registered attendees and guests. Maximum 12 Participants

 

Seminar #4
“Quartz Torch Design, Assembly, and Use”
1:00am – 5:00pm
Instructors: Jim Reynolds and Devin Alterio

Jim and Devin will walk you through the process and demonstrate the techniques used for building a quartz torch. Then build a 7-jet quartz glass torch. Learn the techniques to build your own torch assemblies and larger size torches. Maximum 15 participants.

“Open Your Mind to Success”

8:00am – Noon
Instructor: Joseph S. Gregar

Participate in a seminar that will help you be successful in both common and more complicated scientific glassblowing projects. You will receive information including drawings of interesting tools and advanced glassblowing techniques. You are also encouraged to submit in advance your own project questions to get advice on how to proceed with them. Ask questions one-on-one with the seminar instructor for tips on completing your projects successfully. Also see some specialty tools that I designed and used during my 53 year scientific glassblowing career. Let’s celebrate the 2022 UN International Year of Glass (iyog2022.org) Maximum 15 participants

“Coral Bowl”

Create a fabulous free form abstract fused lass Coral Bowl to display in your home as a functional or decorative art piece. Make multi color glass bowl by choosing the colors of the ocean to design your bowl to reflect your own style. Skills worked on will be; cutting, snapping and arranging glass gods into patterns, kiln firing rates and kiln control. Artistic seminars are available to all registered attendees and guests.

“Ring Seal Design, Construction, and Failure”

An in depth look at various ring seal techniques, types of rings seals. How to identity failure based on crack analysis and the use of a polariscope.

 

Seminar #10
“Torch Test Drive”
1:00pm – 5:00pm

The torch makers will demonstrate proper use and care of their torches and showcase their features. They will answer questions about optimal usage and unveil some newly designed torches. Then, Test them all out and try your hand at different functions and different glasses with the various models.
